Lucky for us, Jared's passion for racing has now spread to the kids, and to our friends! Just after Jared moved back, he's already found races on the West coast to compete in. And this time, he had one of his buddies from the East, and one friend here join him. He started this year off easy, and did the Spartan Sprint in February. Only a quick 3 mile race with 15+ obstacles, up and down the so-called hills here in Arizona, just past Fountain Hills. They were just under an hour in race time and did really well! The kids loved cheering them on and seeing them compete and complete the crazy obstacles!
Rory, Ryan and Jared - pre-race
Jared and Max
Of course, before and after the race we joined in on some of the festivites at base camp, like signing the wall....
Taking pictures with the mask...
One gentleman even held Max up in it just for the sake of the picture! Thank you!
Then the race was on, and off they raced into the hills, over the walls, through the tires, where we couldn't see them anymore. Then they turned around and here were some of the things we got to see them do...climb the rope over a muddy cold pit....
Success!!
Anxiously waiting them to come over the corner...
the horizontal wall climb...
Hello down there!
up mud hills, under the walls - cold and muddy...
Through two muddy pits. The first one was deep, the second one wasn't. After we watched several racers try to jump in to the second mud pit, just to get a shock that it wasn't as deep as they were expecting, and we get a good laugh, we decided to try and warn our racers. Ryan, being the funny man he is, made a bid ordeal as he over-exaggerated his jump into the second pit. We all had a good laugh at that one!
Then it was on to the finish over the last wall,
And through the fire....
And there you have it! 3 Spartan Sprint Finishers!
But the day wasn't over for us yet! It was time for the kids to get their race on!
All 3 of our littles wanted to be just like their daddy and face the race! At the last minute, our princess, Kate, decided it may be just a little too muddy for her to take on, so she stayed and cheered on Cole and Lizzie as they raced a 1 mile course with their own obstacles!
And their off..
Up the hill, over the cement barrels, through the tires,
Under the "barbed wire"
Through the tunnels
Up and through the mud pits
Over and under the walls
To finish just like their daddy, messy and muddy and loved every minute of it! I was so proud that Lizzie raced with the older kids just to be by her brother's side, and that Cole, helped his sister through every obstacle right by her side. I hope that this was just a glimpse of how they will help each other through the good times and the bad and always be there for each other throughout the years. I couldn't be a prouder mom and wife!
