What is it about boys....
Cole decided it was time to try out tackle football this year and was so excited to start wearing the pads and hitting the other team down. We were only 3 weeks into practice when he came home one night cradling his hand. He told me the boy he was practicing against had bent his index finger on his left hand back to the knuckle during a play. It looked really swollen but I had only suspected it to be a sprain. I gave him some ibuprofen and sent him to bed to sleep it off. Next morning, he said it felt better and so I told him to be careful (even though that's his writing hand), write with his right hand and it'll get better. Within a few hours I received a call from the school nurse telling me that Cole had been down to her office to have her look at his hand and that is was bothering him.
She said that she wasn't a doctor or anything but that that looked like it was more than just a sprain and that I should get it checked out, just to be sure. Boy did I feel sheepish! She wrapped it really well and said he'd be fine for the rest of the day and he was back in class but thought I'd like to know.
So I quickly got on the phone and two days later....sure enough, his knuckle had broken, right at the growth plate and it needed a cast. They gave him some good drugs and put a cast on for the next 4-6 weeks. Here's to tackle football!

Cole was excited that he got to have a cast...for about 2 days and then wanted it off. He was a good sport, and we had to remind him not to hit people with his "club." We all got a good laugh out of that but were sure glad when he got it off!
Shortly after his cast incident...he was chose as Student of the Month! He tried to shrug it off like no big deal but I was so excited and proud of this kiddo! He is so conscientious about doing his work and this year is no different. I'm just glad he has a teacher that recognizes and rewards him for his hard work. Seldom, if ever, do I need to remind him about his daily work. The projects aren't his favorite but this kid is always on top of the day to day stuff. So proud of you, Cole!
And this kid...he's just a crack up and likes having his picture taken...for everything.
Needless to say, for every up there is a down, and for every rainy day, there comes a rainbow.
This was a rainbow we saw one afternoon that Lizzie wanted a picture of. It just reminds me to always look for the positive in life and to look up, towards heaven, where the blessings come from, and be grateful for every challenge and blessing we receive.
