There are some advantages and some disadvantages of living in New York for the new year....disadvantage - can't put the clocks ahead 3 hours and count down at 9 and send kids to bed!
This year's party was at our friend's the Schneider's home. They kicked it off with delicious soup and salad bar with several goodies and delicious soups and all kinds of dips to go along!
Then it was off to work off some of the food we eat with the games. They had planned all sorts of minute to win it type games....put as many cotton balls in the bowl with a spoon while blindfolded, then put vaseline on your nose and see how many cotton balls you can stick to your nose, and of course, the shake the ping pong balls out of the box taped to your hips. I must say, Jared was pretty good at that one!
Then it was time to rest and digest a little. The kids watched a movie while the adults did Zumba - and yes, it's quite the workout! and played a little game of their own. It was nice to sit and relax and take in the last few moments of 2012.
As the movie drew to a close, we called the kids down for our own balloon drop!
And as the night drew to a close, we headed home to tuck our kids in bed. While in the process, we found our littelest wonder had somehow climbed up on the chair and was skillfully balancing on the back of it while gazing over the bannister....nothing but hard wood floor below. Yes, it made my heart beat a little quicker. One of us stayed watch while the other grabbed the camera.
When they were all tucked in their beds, we only had 45 minutes til the true countdown. We talked on Skype with family and chimed in the New Year! I can't believe I actually made it to midnight without even dosing off this year! Resolution achieved!
The very next morning, we started the year off right. We had had a snow storm a few days earlier and the snow was ripe for sledding. We grabbed our sleds, snow stuff, even bundled Max up, and headed out for the slopes.....

Unfortunately, Max fell asleep on the way there and slept snug and sound in the car the entire time so no sledding for him. But the kids were more than happy to spend a few hours up and down the hills they went. Sometimes in chains, sometimes one after another, and sometimes with dad!

Thankfully I remembered the hot chocolate and the kids would come back to the car and get a little pick me up and head back out. They loved the day sledding and I loved spending it with them and as a family. It reminded me of the times we would go sledding in Uncle Jerry's backyard and down into the tennis courts. Snow is so much fun to play in. It was a perfect way to start 2013!

Your post makes it sound like so much fun! I know for real how cold it was though...I still like the beach better! Next year, we're together for New Years. Deal?
You make the snow look fun. Love that you brought hot chocolate. Looks like you had fun on New Years too, love the balloon drop! What a great idea! We'll have to do that next year when you are home:)
